De Blasio Features Avos Ubanim Program in State of the City Video

New York – Mayor Bill de Blasio’s annual State of the City address this morning depicted a video of New York City residents talking about life in the city — including a father and son learning Gemara together at an avos ubanim program.
The video, which was shown ahead of the mayor’s speech, shows Sender Rapaport learning Maseches Makkos with his son Nuchum.
“You family is everything for you,” said Sender Rapaport, the CEO of Masbia. “What for others might be rough and tumble, for chassidic families, New York is the best place to live.”
Nuchum Rapaport goes to Bobover Yeshivah in Boro Park.
The video later highlights the Masbia soup kitchen, which has branches in Boro Park and Flatbush. Mr. Rapaport said that his work sometimes keeps him in the kitchen until 10 o’clock at night.
“I try to fill in,” says Mr. Rapaport’s wife in the video. “Sometimes I have to be mom and dad. Sometimes I literally have to, like, call him home — that’s it, the workday is over.”
Mr. Rapaport called the fact that the clip was used a “victory for yeshivas and a Kiddush Hashem.”
