53 Cars Towed During Overnight Ghost Plate Operation
By Y.M. Lowy
The New York City Sheriff’s Office towed 53 cars across Brooklyn during an overnight operation.
The operation took place from midnight to 7 a.m. and focused on “ghost cars,” which are vehicles with fake or covered license plates that make them hard to trace. The goal was to get unsafe or illegal cars off the streets.
Ghost cars are often used to avoid traffic cameras, tolls, or tickets. City officials say they can be dangerous because drivers who hide their plates are harder to hold responsible for traffic violations or crashes.
The Sheriff’s Office said it plans to keep running these operations in other parts of the city.
