Around the House: Get Rid of Those Stubborn Stains

You got dressed, grabbed your coffee, and dashed out the door, but as soon as you sat into your car, a splash of coffee landed on your crisp, white shirt.

Frustrating? Yeah!

But, if you start to treat coffee drips and most other stains quickly, you increase the chances of removing them completely.

Boropark24 provides some tips for removing the most stubborn of stains:

1 Coffee Stains: First, flush the clothing with cold water. Then presoak the garment with a combination of warm water, dishwashing detergent, and white vinegar. After 15 minutes, rinse and launder on the warm setting.

2 Grass Stains: Mix equal parts distilled white vinegar and water. After gently applying the mixture to the area of the stain, let it sit for 30 minutes, before scrubbing and rinsing. Then, repeat the process with a little liquid detergent: sit, scrub, and rinse.

3 Glue stains: Apply ice to the dried adhesive to harden it as much as possible, so you can scrape it off with a plastic knife. Spray with prewash stain remover and rinse before laundering.

4 Blood stains: Instead of just applying a wet towel to blot the stain, use a sponge that is saturated with hydrogen peroxide and gently scrub the bloodstained garment. Liquid or bar soap also can be scrubbed into the stain, before letting the clothing soak in cold water. Then wash on a cold cycle with detergent.

5.     Mud Stains: Using a dull knife, scrape away dried mud. Rub liquid laundry detergent into the stain and let it sit for 15 minutes. Using a wet toothbrush and a few drops of water, scrub the detergent into the stain, scrubbing both sides of the fabric. Machine wash as usual, but wash apart from any other clothes

6.     Paint Stains: A home remedy that works well to remove paint from clothing is hairspray, according to Home Quicks. All you need to do is spray the area with some hairspray and then, rub it with a rag. You may need to repeat the procedure a few times before you see results, so don't give up immediately.

For stubborn stains, some rely on applying a paste made of equal parts vinegar and baking soda to garments for 30 minutes before washing.

Using lemon juice as a stain remover has also proven to be helpful for some.

Others have said that washing stained clothes with Miracle Cleaner is like watching magic happen.

Whichever method you choose to adopt, repeating the steps more than once increases your chances that your garments will come out clean.

But don’t make yourself crazy. Sometimes you just have to let go and throw things away.

Note: do not put any stained clothing into the dryer until the stain is completely gone. The hot dryer just ensures that the stain will be baked into your clothing or tablecloth forever.
