Avraham Fried and Yossi Green Step in as Judges in Jewish Songwriting Contest

By Yehudit Garmaise

Songwriters who dream of creating the next Jewish hit have until June 25, next Motzei Shabbos, to submit their original song lyrics and accompanying melodies to compete in a Jewish Songwriting Competition whose four winners will win studio sessions in which their songs will be professionally produced at no charge.

“I would like to hear from those who already have tunes and never knew what to do with them, explained Moishy Goldstein, the owner of Music Studio NYC in Crown Heights, which is holding the contest.

More than 50 amateur Jewish songwriters worldwide have already submitted their lyrics and tunes, for slow or fast songs, to the Jewish Songwriting Contest that will be decided by all-star panels.

Picking one male songwriter for the best fast song and one for the best slow song are none other than classic singer Avraham Fried, composer Yossi Green, and Goldstein, who is also a musician and music producer.

"A real good Jewish song makes you feel more Jewish and closer to Hashem," Avraham Fried told BoroPark24.

Yossi Green will be looking out for “Songs that carry the depth of the meanings of their lyrics into the hearts of listeners.”

The winning women’s compositions will be chosen by singer Bracha Jaffe and singer-songwriters Esther Freeman and Chaya Kogan.

Freeman said, “A great song isn't one where the lyrics spell everything out, but rather, one in which the composer leaves the meanings up to listeners to interpret for themselves and make it their own.”

Participants should submit their lyrics by singing them and sending them in a voice note to Goldstein’s WhatsApp at https://wa.me/13479880780, where entrants can also be informed on competition updates.
