BDE: Mrs. Blima Lichtman, a”h
BY: YS Gold
We are saddened to inform you of the petirah of Mrs. Lichtman, a matriarch of a prominent Satmar family and a great ba’alas chessed. She was 94 years of age.
The nifteres hailed from the Hungarian town of Selish. Her father was Reb Moshe Bernstein, Hy”d. Her entire family was killed in the war, and she was left alone at the age of sixteen.
With ironclad tenacity, she resolved to rebuild in the ways of her forefathers—and she would do so joyfully. She married Reb Shloime Zalman Lichtman, z”l, a legend in the Satmar kehillah who served as the longtime Rosh Hakohol in Satmar Boro Park.
Reb Shloime Zalman was a ba’al chessed and ba’al tzeddokoh, and Mrs. Lichtman was his partner in all these endeavors. She would regularly open their home for tzedakah parties, and was always engaged in chessed.
Together with her husband, she established a beautiful family who are known as a chashuve family within the Satmar kehillah.
Mrs. Lichtman was sharp and erudite until her last day. She experienced difficulty breathing earlier today, and left this world a few hours later, leaving behind an incredible legacy.
The Levaya will take place at the Satmar beis medrash on 53rd Street at 3:00 and will go from there to Kiryas Yoel.
