BDE: Mrs. Charna Enden, a”h
by YS Gold
We regret to inform you of the passing of Mrs. Charna Enden, a matriarch of a prominent Boro Park family. She was 95 years of age, and dedicated her life to giving to others.
She was born in the town of Beregsacz, Hungary in the year 1927. Her father was Rav Mechel Yosefovich, a well-known Rosh Yeshiva and ardent Munkatcher chossid. Rav Mechel was known as a great masmid and talmid chochom from his early youth, and this is how he spent his life. His name went out in the region, and many talmidim gravitated to learn under him. In addition to his Torah, he was known for his great Yiras Shomayim, and he was respected by all the people in the town of Beregsacz. In the court of Munkatch, he was accorded great honor, being seated near the Minchas Elozor at his tischen. When he would visit his children in Satmar, he would likewise be seated near the Satmar Ruv. Charna absorbed these influences in her youth, and they would remain with her through the horrors that were soon to come.
She suffered through the gehinom of Auschwitz during the last year of the war. Following the war, she married Reb Herschel Enden, an ardent Gerer chossid who endured the horrors of the war and nevertheless carried a smile on his face at all times. He was niftar twelve years ago.
The nifteres devoted her life to giving to others—whether it was her own family to whom she was deeply devoted or complete strangers. She would go around to hospitals and deliver food for patients, and was known in the community as a tremendous ba’alas chessed.
She leaves behind an incredible legacy and a large family that continues to follow in her ways.
The Levaya will take place 9:30 Wednesday morning at Shomrei Hadas. Watch the Levaya here.
