BDE: Mrs. Esther Prizant, A”H
We are saddened to inform you of the passing of Mrs. Esther Prizant, a Boro Park resident since she made her home here following her endurance of the horrors of the Holocaust. She was 98 years of age.
She was born in the year 1923 in the town of Satmar, Romania, to her father, Reb Eliezer Klein, the shamess of the large Shul in Satmar.
She tragically lost her father when she was a young girl, and since then the Divrei Yoel of Satmar, zy”a, would come regularly to check in on the almanah and the yesomim. She would recall the Satmar of her youth, and the class of the cheder which would rent space in their home.
Then came the great Churban, which took her mother and siblings in Auschwitz. Esther, along with her brother and sister, were fortunate to hide out, disguised as gentiles.
A ba’alas chessed her entire life, she would smuggle food to the Yidden in the ghetto, at great risk to her own life.
She married her life’s partner, Reb Yosef Chaim Prizant, a talmid of the Chakal Yitzchok of Spinka, and a great talmid chochom (he passed away 32 years ago).
They settled in Boro Park, and they davened for decades in the Chuster Shul. Reb Yosef Chaim learned most of the day, enabled by his eishes chayil, who worked as a nurses aid. Through the medical knowledge that she gained, she assisted many people. She would always be visiting people, the sick as well as the healthy, always helping wherever she can.
The nifteres leaves behind a beautiful Torah family, which she raised together with her husband in Boro Park.
The Levaya will take place in Shomrei Hadas at 11:00.
Yehi Zichra Baruch.
