We are saddened to inform you of the passing of Mrs. Tabak, one of the remaining members of the she’eris hapleitah. She was 94 years of age.

She hailed from an illustrious line of Rabbonim, including the Stropkover Rov, author of Tiv Gittin v’Kiddushin. She would carry the nobility and the legacy of her forefathers with her to her last day—through the worst Gehinom, and through the rebuilding.

Following the war, she was so emaciated that some of the medical caregivers did not give her a chance at life. But it was her characteristic willpower, and her ironclad will to live, that propelled her forward. Later, she was in Sweden and while many of her friends sadly left Yiddishkeit behind, she stayed strong—the memory of her ancestors clear in her mind.

Arriving in America, she stayed with family in Washington Heights. But they understood that she needed more… “You need to find a boy from Williamsburg,” they told her.

She married Reb Meir Tabak, and they moved to Boro Park, where they were longtime mispalelim in the Chuster Beis Medrash.

Her family describes the priorities that permeated their home—uncompromising on the chinuch of the children, or on any area of Yiddishkeit.

The nifteres was a matriarch who espoused her deep Emunah, and instilled it by her example into beautiful generations that she was zoche to establish. There were no questions in her mind about all that she had endured; only pure faith.

The levaya took place at Shomrei Hadas on Wednesday where she was given an apt kavod acharon following an incredible life.
