BDE: Mrs. Reizel Gutman, a”h

We are saddened to inform you of the passing of Mrs. Reizel Gutman, a”h, a staunch ba’alas mesirus nefesh for her entire life. She was 98 years old.

She was born to her father Reb Volf Framowitz, the Rosh Hakahal of Spinka. She lost her entire family in the war, surviving along with her twin sister. Her chessed shone forth even in the camps, where she worked in the kitchens, and would smuggle our honey wrappers for mothers who had given birth.

She married Reb Hersh Leib Gutman, an ardent Viznitzer chossid who was dedicated to the Viznitzer Rebbeim for all his years.

They remained in Romania until 1962–and it took herculean mesirus nefesh for every aspect of Yiddishkeit, kashrus, shabbos, taharas hamishpacha, and so on. They emigrated through the advocacy of the Skulener rebbe zt”l.

Reb Hersh Leib was a yarei Shomayim, a prominent Shochet. But he was aided in bringing parnasah by his dedicated eishes Chayil who worked long and hard to support the family.

She was big baalas chessed all of her life, and she raised a beautiful family that stands out for Torah and chassidus.

She remained lucid until her last days, and passed away after a short illness, following a lifetime of mesirus nefesh for Yiddishkeit amid emunah peshutah.

Due to the Viznitzer wedding taking place tonight, the Levaya will take place at 8:00 at the nearby 1047 42nd street, enabling the chassidim to give kovod acharon to this elderly matriarch within their midst.

Yehi Zichra Baruch.
