BDE: Mrs. Riva (Rose) Strum, a”h

by YS Gold

We regret to inform you of the passing of Mrs. Strum, a Holocaust survivor and longtime Boro Park resident. She was 96 years of age.

The nifteres was the daughter of Reb Shimshon and Ratzel Abisch in Czechoslovakia, surviving the war through great miracles.

She married and raised a family in Boro Park, and there was one quality about Mrs. Strum that stood out above all others; her generosity and kindheartedness.

“Even well into her 90’s, the nifteres would shower passersby—even complete strangers—with brochos, as she sat on her third-floor porch,” related one neighbor who was a frequent recipient of her generous blessings. “Zost zein gebenched,” she would yell down.

These were habits that Mrs. Strum honed and cultivated over all her years, and they remained with her into her twilight years, and this is how she will be remembered.

The Levaya will take place at Shomrei Hadas 1:00 this afternoon.
