BDE: Reb Chaim Moshe Feldman, z”l, Legendary Philanthropist and Patron of Viznitzer Chassidus

By: Yehuda Alter

In a sad loss for the world of chassidus in general, and the Viznitzer Chassidus in particular, the news came this afternoon of the passing of the legendary philanthropist and ba’al tzeddakah, Reb Chaim Moshe Feldman of London. He was 86 years of age, and was a role model of a chassidishe Yid who was steeped in Torah, avodah and gemilus chassodim despite his great wealth.

He was born in Bnei Brak, and married the daughter of the legendary Satmar philanthropist, Reb Getzel Berger of London.

Throughout his life, even as he went on to amass great wealth, he was meticulous in his avodas Hashem and his shiurei Torah.

His home was open to all, and he distributed millions to tzeddokoh.

Being a Viznitzer Chossid, connected to the Imrei Chaim, his son the Yeshuos Moshe, and ybl”ch, his son, Rebbe Yisroel of Viznitz-Bnei Brak, the court always had a special place in his heart.

Aside from the many millions of dollars in financial support to countless Viznitzer institutions around the world—he was a personal confidante to the Rebbes, who turned to him for many matters affecting the chassidus.

He lost a son in recent years, and his son in law was the Sadigerer Rebbe, zt”l, who was niftar in recent years.

His passing this morning is felt deeply by Viznitzer chassidim around the world—who mourn a legendary supporter, and a great figure within the movement.
