We are saddened to inform you of the passing of Reb Yitzchok Orenstein, a longtime Boro Park resident, and a descendants of the Tosher Rebbeim, zy”a, and a Holocaust survivor. He was 87 years of age.

He was born in the town of Makava, Hungary, to his father Reb Chaim Yosef Orenstein, a prominent talmid chochom and ba’al tefilah in the town. He would later come to Montreal, where he served as a rov, and was a devoted chossid of his brother, the Tosher Rebbe, zt”l,

He spent the war years in Thereisenstadt, following terrible years of persecution during the outset of the war.

It was an extreme anomaly for him to have survived the war with both parents, and he would receive most of his chinuch following the war. He was extremely close to his sainted uncle, the Tosher Rebbe, and was involved in every aspect of forming the kehillah as it was being established.

In Boro Park, he was close to his uncle, the Chuster-Tosher Rebbe, and a pillar of the Tosher community in Boro Park—even as he was a frequent respected visitor to the Tosher court in Montreal.

He was a role model of ehrlichkeit, and a respository of traditions and stories from the old home—always treasuring his holy heritage.

His levaya is taking place this afternoon at 12:30 at the Tosher beis medrash on 14th Avenue
