BDE: Rebbetzin Malka Josephy, a”h
YS GOLD
We regret to inform you of the passing of Rebbetzin Malka Josephy, a”h, the wife of Rav Nachum Tzvi Josephy, the longtime rov of Beis Hamedrash Hagodol of Boro Park, and a longtime Boro Park resident. She was 77 years of age.
The Rebbetzin was the daughter of Rav Tzvi Nosson Manuel, a graduate of the yeshivos in Hungary and Galicia who may have served as the first official rov in Shomrei Shabbos Anshei Sfard of Boro Park way back in the 1920’s.
Malka moved with her parents when Rav Tzvi Nosson became the rov of the great Tiferes Yisroel Shul in Brownsville, but she was raised in the Bronx—a major center of Yiddishkeit in those days.
Malka went on to marry Rav Nochum Tzvi Josephy, a Rav who served as the rov of Beis Hamedrash Hagodol of Boro Park—located on 56th Street near Utrecht Avenue— for many years. Rav Josephy was active on many fronts in Yiddishkeit, in Boro Park and beyond. He cared for new immigrants just as he cared for his congregants from Boro Park. He taught Torah in a number of communities throughout the United States.
In all of it, his Rebbetzin was a partner and a support.
Rav and Rebbetzin Josephy raised a beautiful Torah family—and they will continue to remain a credit to their legacy.
The Levaya will take place in Shomrei Hadas at 10:30 this morning, and the Rebbetzin will be laid to rest in the Munkatcher chelka alongside her husband.
Yehi zichra baruch.
