Camera Enforcement Fines Begin on B11 Bus Route This Friday

By Y.M. Lowy

Drivers in Boro Park should be aware that new automated enforcement fines will begin this Friday, January 9, along the B11 bus route.

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority announced that cameras installed on buses will now issue fines to vehicles that block bus lanes, bus stops, or illegally double park along the B11, as well as three other routes citywide. The fines start at $50 and can increase to $250 for repeat violations.

The B11 bus route is one of four additional routes being added to the Automated Camera Enforcement program, which already covers dozens of bus lines across New York City. The program uses cameras mounted on buses to record violations, including vehicles driving or standing in bus lanes and blocking stops.

The MTA says the enforcement has made a noticeable difference on routes where it is already active. Bus speeds have increased, collisions have dropped, and fewer vehicles are blocking bus stops, helping buses move more reliably for daily riders.

More than 1,400 buses are now equipped with enforcement cameras, covering hundreds of miles of routes and serving close to one million riders each day. Only a small percentage of drivers receive repeat tickets, which officials say shows the program is working as a deterrent.

Routes with active camera enforcement are marked with posted signage. Drivers are encouraged to pay attention to bus lane rules to avoid fines.
