While some advisors say Trump is planning a formal announcement, others claim the former President can just send a Truth Social message announcing his run. MillmanIn response to a U.S. Supreme Court ruling overturning the State's century-old concealed carry law, a new anti-gun bill was signed by the governor and passed into law on Friday, July 1, banning concealed carry weapons in sensitive locations. Locations include public transit; houses of worship; schools/daycares;  parks; businesses serving alcohol; hospitals; sports/entertainment venues; government buildings, homeless shelters;  poll sites; and Times Square. Guns will also be outlawed in all businesses and on private property unless the owner expressly grants permission for firearms. Businesses will have to post a sign stating armed patrons are welcome. The new gun legislation will not only limit where people can carry firearms but will also place restrictions on who can get a permit. It requires that applicants undergo 15 hours of in-person training at a firing range;  an in-person interview; and a review of social media accounts. Applicants will have to show they have "the essential character, temperament, and judgment necessary to be entrusted with a weapon and to use it only in a manner that does not endanger oneself and others." Licenses will need to be renewed after three years. The bill, set to take effect September 1, also outlaws the sale of body armor. Regarding concerns being raised about the safety of shuls, Boropark24 spoke with Assemblyman Simcha Eichenstein about shul security guards. Eichenstein said he fought for an exemption, and the final bill now has an exemption for shul security guards.  Not everyone is pleased with the governor's latest efforts. "The anti-2A gun legislation passed today by Democrats in Albany & signed by Kathy Hochul will make New York LESS safe. The threat isn't the law-abiding New Yorker who wants to safely and securely carry a firearm solely for self-defense. Go after the criminals instead!" Congressman Lee Zeldin, who is running for N.Y. governor, tweeted on Friday.  "Now, what they're doing with this action today up in Albany is targeting the law-abiding New Yorker," Zeldin said during an interview with Fox News. "I don't think they're making New York more safe; they're making New York less safe. Thomas Suozzi, who came in last with just 13% of the vote. After Andrew Guiliani, who previously served as an adviser to former President Donald Trump, took an early lead on the Republican side, Zeldin, an attorney, and former military intelligence officer in the US Army who served in Iraq, won with 44.3% of the vote. Guiliani had earned 23% of the vote early Wednesday morning, and Rob Astorino was in last place with 18% of the vote. In the race for lieutenant governor, Antonio Delgado has taken the lead with 60.6% of New Yorkers’ votes. Degaldo was appointed by Gov. From his most recent experience as serving as the lead counsel in the first impeachment trial of former President Donald Trump, Goldman said that he learned that being effective in Washington, DC, requires creative argumentation skills that he thinks would serve him well to get things done in the US House of Representatives. As a Jew and a candidate with a background in law enforcement, Goldman thinks he will be the most effective advocate on Capitol Hill for New York City’s most Jewish district. Goldman, whose wife is an Orthodox Jew who went to Jewish schools in LA and New York City, said, “I understand the issues in this community much better than anyone else does. “I am very comfortable and familiar with these communities because it is part of my family too. I am going to be an advocate for this community.” Anti-Semitism, which Goldman said, “does not get enough attention,” is among his top concerns. “I am pro-Israel, and some of the other candidates are not.” BoroPark24:  What have some of your interactions with the Orthodox community been like? Dan Goldman:  On June 8, I attended the Bobov-45 groundbreaking of its new beis medrish, which was a very moving and emotional experience. I was deeply honored to meet the Grand Rebbe and receive a blessing. Most of my interactions with the Orthodox community, however, are through friends and connections through my wife’s family. I am excited to be meeting with a lot of leaders in the community to better understand the needs and issues of the constituents. BP24: What do you think are some of the needs of the constituents of District 10? DG:  One issue that I know comes up is that Jewish funerals need to take place within 24 hours, so when you have relatives in Israel, that can be very complicated. So, as your congressman, I will make sure we have very quick abilities to help to get relatives in town for funerals. My purpose is to be a base where constituents can go and feel connected. I will make sure my office provides many services so people can get what they need. BP24: What other types of constituent services do you think are needed in District 10? DG: For this community, I am very focused on anti-Semitism and education. Everyone should be able to live the lives they want to lead and grow up understanding and valuing.   BP24: What kind of harsher consequences do you think can be enacted to deter those who would commit hate crimes? DG: For hate crimes, I believe that criminals who perpetrate hate crimes should receive extra jail time. Crimes’ motives do not usually affect sentencing, however, for hate crimes, we need to add penalties when hatred and discrimination are motives.  BP24: Where do you hold with government interfering with yeshiva education? DG: I am a believer in the separation of church and state. When the candidates, who all called for massive cuts in state spending and taxes, were asked whether violence or crime ever personally impacted their lives, businessman Harry Wilson had unfortunately shared that he had recently experienced tragedy. “On Thursday night, my cousin’s father, [who was 77] was murdered in his backyard,” Wilson said. “[The perpetrator] was a monster who was out on cashless bail upstate who had committed two assaults in recent weeks. “He has set a fire in his backyard to draw him out, and then he stabbed him to death.” Wilson said that when his cousin called him, she said, “You have to get elected. You have to fix this problem. “And I am going to do everything in my power to do it.” Giuliani blamed the mass exodus of out of the state on New York’s skyrocketing crime rates, which he said are sky-high statewide, and not just in NYC. “On Day One, I would ask the state Senate and the Assembly that I need a full repeal of bail reform on my desk, or I am not passing anything in your upcoming budget,” promised Giuliani, who participated in the debate remotely in a nearby studio because he had not been vaccinated. US Rep. Lee Zeldin (R-1st) said that the hardest part of serving in Congress has been going to funerals of “people who are dying too young: especially NYPD funerals in which we hear family members asking for action.” Zeldin also pointed out that many crimes that are plaguing New York do not involve guns, such as stabbings, subway shovings, hammer beatings, and hate crimes. “We have to combat all of this raw, violent hate,” Rep. Why didn’t you use the consider powers of the governor to veto budget items to enact a “dangerousness statute,” Cramer asked. Hochul: Instead of just considering defendants’ level of “dangerousness,” which is subjective, Judges now have discretion now to specifically analyze defendants’ histories, the severity of their crimes, whether they had orders of protection before, and whether they used guns. "Today, we need each and every one of you to stay calm and stay home," Zelenskyy told a terrified nation. "We are working, the army is working, all sectors of defense and security of Ukraine are working and continuing with a common theme: trying to keep people calm, and trying to keep people from panicking." In a speech Russian President Vladimir Putin gave at 6am local time, he announced a “special military operation," after assembling in recent months between 150,000 and 190,000 troops along Ukraine’s border, all the while denying that Russia intended to attack its neighbor to the southeast.  Ukrainian residents in multiple cities, including Kyiv, the nation's capital, and Kharkiv, are now hearing explosions and sirens that warn of bombs, as live video feeds show the world the large, smoky fireballs that are briefly lighting up the sky. To drive down prices, officials from the US Federal Reserve, the country’s central bank, announced they will raise interest rates, which will slow down consumer and commercial spending that would require loans.To maintain economic stability in the US, the officials on the Fed’s rate-setting Federal Open Market Committee meet eight times a year to analyze employment and inflation to decide whether to raise or lower interest rates, according to bankrate.com. Few signs yet indicate that prices will come down anytime soon, as ports and warehouses in Los Angeles and Long Beach, the nation’s busiest, are still overwhelmed because hundreds of dockworkers called in sick last month. Census Bureau Determines Most Common Languages Spoken in US: After English and Spanish After English and Spanish, which is the second-most spoken language in the US, Mandarin and Cantonese are the next most common languages spoken nationwide, according to The US Census Bureau’s American Community Survey (ACS), which regularly conducts survey to determine facts about the lives of the 329.5 million people who live in the US. With each new wave of American immigrants, the number of languages spoken here increases. While approximately 78% of Americans who are five and older reported in 2019, speaking only English at home, regardless of their country of birth, the remaining 22%, reported speaking a language other than English at home. After Spanish, which 61.6% of the non-English speakers in the US reported speaking, the next largest group was comprised of 5.2% of the non-English speakers, who speak Mandarin and Cantonese. Tagalog, a language of the Philippines, comprise 2.6% of the foreign language speakers at home, and 2.3% speak Vietnamese. Plants Emit Ultrasonic “Screams,” when Stems are Cut, or they are Deprived of Water Tomato plants and tobacco plants emit a high frequency distress sounds when they undergo environmental stress, such as having their stems cut, or being deprived of water, according to a recent study conducted by a team of scientists at Tel Aviv University. The researchers conducted a study of the plants by depriving them of water and by cutting their stems and then recording their responses with a microphone that was placed 10 centimeters away. While plants that are not threatened with any imminent dangers produce less than one ultrasonic sound per hour, when under distress, the tomato and tobacco plants in the study began to emit ultrasonic sounds between 20 and 100 kilohertz, which the scientists believed conveyed their distress to other nearby plants and organisms. When a tomato plant’s stem was cut, the researchers found it emitted 25 ultrasonic distress sounds over the course of an hour, according to Live Science. Tobacco plants sent out 15 distress sounds when their stems were cut. Last year, another study found that some plants, after having their leaves plucked or even touched, registered pain by releasing a foul-tasting chemical across their leaves, believed to ward off insects. “These findings can alter the way we think about the plant kingdom, which has been considered to be almost silent, until now,” the group wrote in a paper that summarized their findings that they posited could help farmers better identify potential problems, such as in intense wind and rain, with their crops. 0112/12/21, 9:08 PM85822Gov. Hochul today to announce that she is preparing the state to ensure that enough hospitals rooms, and not hotel rooms, are available. Gov.
