City to Close Concrete Recycling Yard at Brooklyn Marine Terminal
By Y.M. Lowy
The city will shut down the concrete recycling facility at the Brooklyn Marine Terminal by the end of the year, with operations ending as soon as August. The announcement comes after months of concern from local residents who said the site was causing noise, dust, and heavy truck traffic in the Columbia Street Waterfront District.
The facility was meant to be temporary and had been relocated in 2024 to make space for offshore wind development at the South Brooklyn Marine Terminal. Since then, it has supported city projects like sidewalk repairs and pedestrian safety upgrades.
The Department of Transportation will continue concrete work around the city, but from a different location. Other work that was already happening at the yard will remain.
