Costco to Limit Gasoline to Members Only as Drivers Struggle with Skyrocketing prices

Costco, the retail giant by membership only, also sells gasoline at many of its locations. This service is open to the general public, and does not require membership—enabling everyone to benefit from cheaper gas prices. 

But this may be coming to an end, as the lines become longer and the stakes become higher. 

As prices reach astounding levels, more people are making their way to Costco, resulting in longer lines. This seems to irk members, who are often unable to avail themselves of the service, for lack of supply. 

Gas prices reached an average of a little over $5.00 in the state of New Jersey, while Costco was charging $4.81 in the same time period. 

One keen observer had the following insight on the long wait: “If you spent 45 minutes waiting in line, you burned gas equal to the amount you would have saved at the pump,” he said, in a wry commentary of the times we are living through.
