Mayor Eric Adams, last week, laid out a comprehensive, wide-ranging, and ambitious plan that seeks to solve many of the problems that have caused crime rates in New York City to continue to tick upwards up a mountain that keeps growing larger.

The NYPD, for instance, reported today that except for murder, which saw a slight dip, compared to January 2021, the incidents of every other major category of crime in New York City continue to climb to rates that are 38% higher than they were last year at this time.

Tragically, two police officers, a 11-month baby, a 19-year-old girl, and others were among the fatal victims of the shooting incidents that are up 32%, reported the NYPD, which added that other New Yorkers were hurt in the hate crimes that are up 79%.

From Jan. 1 to Jan. 30, NYPD’s CompStat data shows that property crimes also continue to soar, as burglaries are up 6%, felony assaults are up 12%, robberies are up 33%, crimes are grand larceny are up 57%, and grand larceny auto crimes are up a shocking 93%, NBC News reported.

The city’s transit system, which has sadly been the site of many violent crimes in the last year, has already seen crime rise by 70% in the first month of the year.

NYPD Commissioner Keechant Sewall and Chief of Transit Jason Wilcox, however, have already promised to provide hundreds of more transit officers, not just to patrol the subway trains and stations, but to gather intelligence, by observing, listening, greeting, and engaging New York City commuters in conversation to prevent crime.

On Jan. 24, when Mayor Adams announced his Blueprint to End Gun Violence, which more than 200 city leaders praised in an open letter they wrote to him yesterday, he spoke about praying for victims of gun violence, but also he said, “We are going to do a lot more than pray.

“We are going to turn our pain into purpose. We are going to unite and take action.

“We will not surrender our city to the violent few. We are not going to go back to the bad old days. We are going to get trigger pullers off the streets and guns out of their hands.”
