Dee Voch Produces Mega Edition in Tribute to Rav Chaim Kanievsky, zt”l

By: Yehuda Alter

The sudden petirah of the Sar haTorah, Rav Chaim Kanievsky, zt”l, on Friday morning EST—on the day following Purim— did not leave publications with ample time to compose an edition that would befit the 94 incredible years that Rav Chaim lived on this earth—completely immersed in Torah for the vast majority of that time, only pausing to make himself available to his fellow Yid.

But Dee Voch, the prominent Yiddish-language magazine with thousands of readers—has done it.

Among the four hundred pages in this edition, which includes a beautiful array of Purim photos from Rabbonim, Admorim, and communities around the world, readers are treated to breathtaking supplements and heartfelt articles exhibiting the life of Rav Chaim from numerous angles and various lenses.

The overarching theme, of course, is... Torah, his entire life.

In the concise biography, readers will find many details about Rav Chaim’s life which have never been known before, while Dee Voch speaks exclusively with a grandson who served as his gabbai for three decades. A neighbor of fifty years expresses his unique recollections in a pain-filled tone, while the famed mohel who performed hundreds of brissin with Rav Chaim as sandak has his own special stories.

Rav Chaim’s schedule, and his incredible breadth of learning that he did each day—over about 20 hours—is almost impossible to believe, accompanied by a Shabbos of elevations spent in his circle, and the unique glimpses that affords.

In the aftermath of the extinguishment of the great light, Dee Voch brings notable words of guidance and tribute from gedolei Yisroel around the world—and famed children’s maggid Reb Leibish Lish gives his perspective on time spent with the gadol.

All this is in addition to an incredible amount of content on a wide array of topics.

This edition is a must-read for fathers and mothers, adolescents and children who will be inspired and awed by this incredible life, through thousands of images and words.

With this week’s edition flying off the shelves, Dee Voch has already had to print thousands of extra copies this week—accommodating the desire in our community to connect with the incredible life of Rav Chaim through this breathtaking masterpiece in tribute.
