 Dole, Fresh Express salad products recalled over possible listeria contamination

Dole recalled their fresh vegetables packaged in two of its facilities due to possible Listeria contamination. Their salads, under various labels, with best-by dates between November 30th and January 8th have been linked with the Listeria outbreak. A separate outbreak of the infection has been linked with Fresh Express packaged salads.

Listeria is a germ that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Although healthy individuals may suffer only short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, nausea, and abdominal pain, it can get more complicated in people with compromised immunity. 

The FDA says, "anyone who received recalled products use extra vigilance in cleaning and sanitizing any surfaces and containers that may have come in contact with these products to reduce the risk of cross-contamination. Listeria can survive in refrigerated temperatures and can easily spread to other foods and surfaces."
