Exploring Boro ‘Parks’: Shore Road Park
By Y.M. Lowy
In our summer series Exploring Boro ‘Parks’, BoroPark24 is visiting parks close to the neighborhood that offer a space to breathe, move, and share moments with family. Each week, we’ll share a short look at a nearby park’s past and what makes it worth a visit today.
Stretching along Shore Road from around 68th Street all the way to the Verrazzano Bridge, Shore Road Park offers some of the most scenic waterfront views in Brooklyn.
Originally private waterfront estates and shoreline, this greenway was converted to public parkland in the early 20th century and significantly transformed during the 1930s. Today the park offers playgrounds and spray fountains, where children laugh and cool off in summer as well as tennis courts, basketball courts, and baseball and soccer areas. A long, tree-lined waterfront promenade and bike path for walking, jogging, or just relaxing by the water is the main attraction.
What’s special about Shore Road Park is its peaceful landscape. You’ll spot families having picnics, people fishing, joggers running on the waterfront loop, and plenty of benches to sit and appreciate the scenery.
Stay with us as we continue exploring more parks in the weeks ahead.
