Gov. Hochul Signs Legislation Sponsored by Felder and Eichenstein Exempting Hatzalah Vehicles from Speed Camera Violations
Governor Hochul delivered great news today to our community’s first responders by signing the legislation introduced by Senator Simcha Felder and Assemblyman Simcha Eichenstein that exempts Hatzalah vehicles from speed camera violations.
The bill passed the legislature weeks ago, but required Governor Hochul’s signature in order to become law, and on Friday Governor Hochul signed the legislation.
The legislation requires Hatzalah volunteers to send in an affidavit that their vehicle was responding to an emergency while they were speeding passed a camera, or passing a red light, and their ticket will then be dismissed, removing a huge burden and costly expense from many selfless volunteers.
“When it comes to saving a life, every minute counts. That’s why it’s so important that our heroic Hatzolah volunteers reach patients as quickly and efficiently as possible, without having to worry about monetary fines.” said Assemblyman Simcha Eichenstein. “I am thankful and delighted that Governor Hochul signed our bill into law, recognizing that emergency medical first responders should be allowed to operate without concern of traffic violations.”
