Government Begins Intense Inspections of Local Yeshivos on Heels of Regulations Rollout
By: Yehuda Alter
A letter from the State Education Department to a local
Brooklyn Yeshiva, as reported by Yeshiva World News, gives insight into what
the new reality may look like for our local Yeshivos, R”l.
In the letter—issued even before the regulations have been
formally adopted—the Department of Education requests a follow-up visit to
collect details on the curriculum and on precise hours allocated to these studies.
They also request the accountability on the minute details of the curriculum in
the area of “physical education,” which includes instruction regarding
“alcohol, drugs, and tobacco use,” among many others.
When the regulations are adopted, activists believe that
similar actions will be taken on a far broader scope, affecting the majority of
yeshivos in Brooklyn.
A harsh reminder of the stakes in this matter is a previous
story which
Boropark24 reported in which parents
sending their children to yeshivos that don’t comply with the government’s
demands can be jailed for truancy.
