Group of Orthodox Journalists Travel to Ukraine as War Reaches Ominous Anniversary

As the invasion of Russia in Ukraine reaches its first anniversary, a group of Orthodox journalists representing a wide range of outlets in America and in Israel, visited the beleaguered country to see firsthand the devastation to hear from President Zelensky and his advisor.

The trip was organized by Zelensky’s Jewish advisor, Rabbi Hillel Cohen, who has been an angel of rescue in the war-torn country, and included representatives from Dee Voch, Der Yid, Yiddisher Vinkel, Kikar Hashabbos, B’Chadrei Charedim, Ami, Mishpacha, Hamevaser, Kol B’Rama, Kol Chai, Bakehillah, and Shachris.

Dee Voch’s Moshe Klein, who has made many trips to far-flung countries on the magazine’s behalf, could not help but be saddened by what he saw. “We visited the Jewish community, once a bustling center of Jewish life... and everyone who was able to leave has left,” he said. “We made a stop in Uman, which has hundreds of people throughout the year, and it is likewise empty,” he said.

The group met with Ukrainian officials, and met briefly with president Zelensky, who was receiving the Spanish Prime Minister at the time.
