By Y.M. Lowy
The National Weather Service has issued a High Wind Watch for New York City, effective from 9 p.m. Wednesday through 8 a.m. Thursday. Residents should prepare for strong winds that have the potential to down trees and power lines, posing hazards to public safety.
Officials advise securing all loose outdoor objects, including patio furniture, trash bins, and potted plants. Homeowners should inspect their property for items that may have loosened and could become airborne during the storm.
Power outages are possible, so residents are encouraged to charge electronic devices ahead of time. Anyone traveling during the watch should exercise caution and remain alert for debris on roads.
For downed trees, branches, or power lines, call 311. If the situation presents a life-threatening danger, call 911. It is critical to never approach downed power lines and to treat all lines as energized to avoid serious injury.
