NYPD and Shomrim were called to the Sweetness Candy Shop on New Utrecht Avenue near 55th Street, where a suspect attempted to make off with the contents of the cash register after threatening the cashier with a knife.
The shaken store manager told BoroPark24, “I was in the back of the store doing some stocking when I noticed on the camera that someone just made off with our entire cash register—I ran out after him,” he said.
The suspect fled the scene before he could be apprehended, but the cash register is safely back on the sales counter at Sweetness, and business has resumed as usual.
Unwilling to let the criminal get away, Boro Park Shomrim the launched an extensive search in the area for the suspect, and located him a short distance from the crime scene. He was arrested by NYPD shortly thereafter.
