Mailbox Theft Ring Busted in Boro Park After Multi-Day Crime Spree, Police Chase Ends in Pole Crash

By Y.M. Lowy

Over the past few days, a concerning pattern has been unfolding in Boro Park, as groups of individuals were caught stealing mail directly from neighborhood mailboxes.

This can be dangerous with the potential for stolen checks, personal information, and sensitive documents.

On Motzaei Shabbos, a member of Shomrim spotted two individuals in the act of removing mail. Additional volunteers quickly responded and kept watch on the suspects. A drone was also deployed to help track their movements from above. Shortly after, the NYPD arrived and placed the suspects under arrest.

A similar incident took place the following night. This time, three individuals were seen driving through the neighborhood, stopping at multiple mailboxes and removing mail before continuing on. Shomrim volunteers again maintained visual contact and relayed real-time information to police.

As officers responded, the suspects attempted to flee, at one point driving onto sidewalks. The vehicle eventually crashed into a pole, bringing the pursuit to an end. All three individuals were taken into custody at the scene. Multiple pieces of stolen mail were recovered from the vehicle.

Residents in Boro Park are being urged to remain alert and to avoid leaving mail in public accessible boxes for extended periods of time.
