Many New Yorkers still Left Without Power After Isaias Hits

Tropical storm Isaias seethed through New York, knocking out electricity for the second-highest number of Con Ed customers ever.

Tuesday, a total of 257,000 customers were out of power, second to Hurricane Sandy, which caused 1.1 million outages in October of 2012.

As of 8:30 am Wednesday, Con Edison has calculated a total of 5,240 power outages that still affect 98,215 people.

Con Edison numbers show that Queens was most heavily affected, with 46,528 people still without power. Brooklyn came in at number four, with 8,236, Manhattan had the lowest amount of outages with a total of only 68.

Some 911 phone lines were down on Wednesday in Orange County, upstate New York.

On Tuesday, Con Ed brought an additional 220 line workers to restore service and 500 other personnel to replace things such as poles and wires.
