Massive Five-Alarm Fire in Red Hook Warehouse, Right Outside Boro Park
By Y.M. Lowy
A huge fire broke out late last night in a Red Hook warehouse and was still burning this morning, sending heavy smoke across Brooklyn, including Boro Park and nearby neighborhoods.
The blaze began around 11:30 p.m. inside a large warehouse used by artists. Flames quickly spread, escalating to a five-alarm response. More than 200 firefighters have been battling the fire from the ground and the water, with FDNY fireboats blasting streams into the building.
Fire trucks filled the surrounding streets overnight as crews worked to contain the flames. Two firefighters were treated for injuries that were not life-threatening.
As of this morning, the fire remained active, with smoke visible for miles. The cause is under investigation.
