Mayor Adams “Can’t Wait” to Phase Out City’s Indoor Mask Requirements

Mayor Eric Adams “can’t wait” to lift New York City’s vaccine passport requirements to enter indoor spaces, he said this morning at a press conference at Brooklyn Navy Yard after a reporter pointed out that Boston, Philadelphia, and Washington, DC, are either in the process or have already done so.
“I look forward to the next few weeks going through a real transformation in which I don’t have to wonder what you look like,” said Mayor Adams. “I will know what you look like again.
“We are moving in the right direction, and we are going to do it in a safe way because all of these experts will tell you one thing: We can’t close down again.”
While he looks forward to phasing out mask requirements, the mayor said that he would not do anything to jeopardize keeping the city open.
“Our economy can’t handle [shutting down again,] the mayor said. “We don’t have another $11 billion to put back into the economy.
“We must [drop the masks requirements] in a smart way. People are going to look back later and say, ‘You know: he made the right decisions.’
“We are going to get the city back up and operating.”
