Milk Crate Opens Summer Location in Woodridge

Milk Crate Opens Summer Location in Woodridge

“You really have to be here to see how excited people are to get really good cups of coffee in the country,” said Josh Roth who owns both Milk Crate at 1278 49th Street and a new summer location in Woodridge. “We take great coffee, and make it sweet and natural while bringing out interesting flavors.”

Caramel Mac, Truffle Twist, Toasted White Chocolate, Cinnamon Toast, and Matcha are a few of Milk Crate’s more decadent hot drinks for those who crave sweetness with their jolts of java.

Three and a half years ago, Roth, who grew up in Boro Park, first opened Milk Crate in because he wanted to share his passion for coffee with the neighborhood in a festive and appealing café.

While Mr. Roth, who is “obsessed with coffee,” according to his wife, runs Milk Crate, Mrs. Roth has owned La La Lipstick, a beautiful upscale hair and makeup salon for women at 4902 13th Ave for the past 10 years.

After the Roths took their two children to spend the summer in Woodridge last year, the entrepreneurial couple saw an opportunity to expand their business in the country.

“Everyone loves quality coffee, and we thought we would go retro,” said Mrs. Roth, who manages the Milk Crate café that has been open since June 30 at 15 Broadway in Woodridge. “We saw that the country needed such a café.

What is the secret to their success?

“Everyone feels like they are getting a taste of their daily great cup of coffee that they would get back in the city,” said Mrs. Roth.

The couple plans to open the Milk Crate summer location in Woodridge every summer for eight weeks in July and August.

What are some of the favorites of the country crowd?

The “Baby Bella” grilled cheese, which includes a sliced, sauteed fresh portobello mushroom, mozzarella, red peppers, and homemade dressing is one of the hottest items on the menu in Woodridge, Roth told BoroPark24.

Other favorites are breakfast for days, open-faced avocado toasts, and salads with roasted salmon and grains.

While Milk Crate always invests in top-of-the-line espresso equipment and coffee beans, some customers prefer “Yum Yum Tea,” in which a fresh fruit compote sweetens raspberry iced tea.

Coffee lovers get to take home a bit of Milk Crate’s trendy décor with them when they get their coffee in to-go cups that feature drawings of 13th Avenue scenes.

The detailed drawings on the coffee cups were hand drawn by a local artist who sat in the cafe for 24 hours to get the scenes right.
