NYC Legislators Continue Four-Year Fight to Set Speed Limits
M.C. Millman
A four-year effort to pass legislation to allow New York City to set its own speed limits might finally be heading for the finish line and for passage by the state legislature.
The bill, named Sammy's Law as reported by BoroPark24 nearly a year ago here was named for a 12-year-old boy killed by a car near his home. Even with the support of Governor Hochul, the State Senate, Mayor Eric Adams, and the City Council, the lower House was not allowed to vote on the bill last year.
This year, revisions to the bill presently headed for the state legislature would not automatically change the speed limit but would allow New York City to change the speed limit on its own within city limits.
