NYC Public Schools to Replace Snow Days with Classes on Zoom

NYC Public Schools to Replace Snow Days with Classes on Zoom

New York City schoolchildren, who had their first day of school today, can no longer hope for a day off of school, when the city is blanketed with snow, New York City’s Department of Education (DOE) has announced.

When snowstorms and other severe weather hit the city next year, New York City public schools will pivot to online learning.

Election Day on Nov. 2 also will be a day of online learning at home for public school students.

After public school students returned to in-person learning last winter, the city’s public schools switched to remote learning during the city’s several snowstorms.

The pandemic has proved to city educators that learning can still happen even when students are not in the classroom, however, many teachers and students have reported that remote learning was often a total waste of time without the engagement, structure, and human contact in the classroom.
