Record Number of Orthodox Jews Set to Serve in New York State Assembly This January

In a historic milestone for New York politics, five Orthodox Jews are set to be members of the New York State Assembly this January.

This unprecedented representation follows the recent Democratic primary victories of Kalman Yeger and Aron Wieder, who will join incumbents Simcha Eichenstein, Sam Berger, and David Weprin in Albany.

Kalman Yeger has served in the New York City Council for more than 6 years, representing parts of Borough Park, Midwood/Flatbush, Gravesend, Kensington and Bensonhurst. He won over 70% of the vote in last month’s primary. Aron Wieder has been a member of the Rockland County Legislature for the last decade, representing Spring Valley. Wieder won over 68% of the vote in the June primary. Councilman Yeger and Legislator Wieder are distinguished legislators, well-known for their dedication to public service, and are expected to bring their extensive experience and commitment to Albany.
