Shomrim Helps Resolve Two Thefts, Recovering Thousands of Dollars

By Yisroel R.

Earlier this week, a Boro Park resident contacted Shomrim in a panic after discovering that $7,000 in cash had gone missing while he was going through a move to a new home. The homeowner had put this hard-earned money away in a drawer before the move began, and he believed that one of the movers had taken it.

Shomrim quickly responded and began speaking with the manager of the moving crew, urging him to address the situation and instruct the workers to return the money. The conversation lasted only a few minutes but created enough pressure for the issue to be resolved.

When the homeowner returned to the drawer where the cash had been stored, he found that the full $7,000 had been put back. Relieved and thankful, he expressed his appreciation to Shomrim for their quick intervention and effective handling of the situation.

In another incident, Shomrim received a call a few days ago regarding a cleaning lady who was suspected of stealing money over the past several weeks. The homeowner had noticed cash disappearing and contacted a neighbor who also employed the same cleaning lady. The neighbor confirmed that they too had missing money.

Shomrim advised the homeowner to install a hidden camera to determine whether anything was being taken. After additional cash went missing, the footage clearly showed the cleaning lady taking the money.

Shomrim approached her to discuss the matter in an effort to avoid needing to notify the NYPD. She initially denied any wrongdoing, but once shown the video, she realized she had been caught. She agreed to have a relative return the stolen funds.

A short time later, a relative arrived and handed back the money: $10,000 to the homeowner and another $5,000 to the neighbor.

While most workers are honest, residents should take basic precautions when allowing outside help into their homes. Homeowners should secure cash, jewelry, and valuables out of sight before moves or cleaning, and report any suspicion early so issues can be handled quickly and discreetly. Thanks to Shomrim’s swift intervention in both cases, the stolen money was returned and the situations were resolved without further escalation.
