Snowless Winter in NYC Breaks 50-Year Record

By: Yaker Biegeleisen

New York City broke a 50-year record Monday.

The last time it snowed was March 22, 2022—and that means that we have not waited this long for snow since the winter of 1973.

Snow on the ground has its inconveniences, everyone has some wistfulness for the white powder on the ground, and some downright miss this feature of winter in New York.

According to meteorologists, the conditions were in place for a warmer winter to begin with, thanks to a weather pattern in the Pacific Ocean—and the winter has indeed been milder than most.

While some still hold out hope for a monster storm in the remaining months of winter, with Tu Bishvat heralding the beginning of the end of the season, it feels like this winter may break even more records before it is over.
