Suspect Enters Apartment Through Fire Escape Windows, Steals Thousands of Dollars and Jewlery

A suspect broke into an apartment building unit on 54th Street on Saturday night through a fire escape window, and fled the scene with thousands of dollars in cash and jewelry.

The incident occurred at around 9:30 when the resident left his home for a half hour and returned home to find his front door jammed. He summoned a locksmith who realized that the door was locked from the inside.

The homeowner than called Shomrim who arrived to the scene and saw that the fire escape window was open, after searching the apartment, they saw jewlery missing and a broken safe with lots of cash stolen. A police report has been filed and they are investigating the incident.

This may serve as an important reminder to keep windows locked, specifically near fire escapes.
