Today in History: 80th Anniversary of D-Day

Today is the 80th anniversary of D-Day, a day in history that changed the course of WWII. 

On June 6th, 1944, more than 150,000 Allied soldiers, including 73,000 Americans, landed on the shores of Normandy, France. The soldiers arrived by air and sea with the goal to liberate France, and then the rest of Europe, from the Nazis.

Until today, D-day remains the largest seaborne invasion in history. 

In honor of the 80th anniversary a large celebration event is taking place today in Normandy, with around 150 American veterans who participated in D-Day in attendance. In addition, President Biden, Ukraine’s Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Britain’s Prince William, and the French president Emmanuel Macron, are all in attendance as well to honor those brave soldiers.
