Uber Connect Takes-Off (With the Goods)

Uber Connect Takes-Off (With the Goods)

by M.C. Millman

After ordering an Uber to deliver a much-anticipated gown, the driver arrived, accepted the package, drove off and ...canceled the pickup.

And now Shea, a Boro Park resident, was left in the lurch. No gown. No Uber driver to be found, and no help from Uber.

Initially, Shea hoped that the Uber Connect delivery would still make the delivery-but after a few hours, it became clear that he was hoping in vain.

After contacting Shomrim about the theft and reviewing the video camera footage, they reached out to Uber, but it seemed that their efforts were for nothing, and the gown remained lost.

Uber Connect offers a disclosure on their web page saying: *Packages sent using Uber Connect must total less than $100 in value per trip, be less than 30 pounds, and fit comfortably in the trunk of a midsize vehicle" which might explain Uber's initial lack of interest in assisting in this particular case.

But at 10:00 p.m. Thursday night, Shea received a call from the Uber driver telling him he should come to pick up the gown. Seems an odd demand from a driver of a car service but Shea wasn't about to argue and was just grateful to have the gown returned.

This is the second report to BorkPark24 this week alone of unscrupulous Uber drivers leaving one to wonder what this world is coming to now that even package delivery services are proving Uber untrustworthy.
