“Zero Good Reasons”: Felder Blasts Pedestrian Plaza Plan Near Maimonides
By BoroPark24 Staff
Councilman Simcha Felder is strongly opposing a proposed pedestrian plaza on 10th Avenue in front of Maimonides Medical Center, calling the plan a serious misjudgment that ignores the daily realities facing patients, families, and the surrounding community.
In a statement, Felder said, “Planning a pedestrian plaza shows a stunning disconnect from the real needs and daily pressures of the community this hospital serves. Families are constantly visiting loved ones in emergency care, with an endless stream of cars dropping off and picking people up, and traffic is already strained for the people who live and work in this neighborhood. There are just about zero good reasons for cutting critical access space in front of Maimonides Hospital - a pedestrian plaza is an absurd proposal that is completely detached from reality for a hospital in dire financial straits.”
Maimonides Health, together with engineering firm TYLin and the NYC Department of Transportation, will host a public open house Tuesday, Feb 10, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM in the main lobby of Maimonides Medical Center at 4802 10th Avenue. Attendees can drop in at any time during those hours, review design concepts, and speak directly with project staff.
