Increased Subway Security the New Normal for NYC According to the Mayor Adams
By Mindy Cohn
After the series of high-profile subway crimes over the past few weeks, following on the heels of more of the same over the past year, Governor Hochul sent the National Guard to New York City, as reported by BoroPark24 here.
The deployment was the governor's response to the city's request for millions of dollars meant to pay for overtime for the NYPD which she refused to cover to keep riders on the New York City subway safe.
The result of the influx of patrols is that hundreds of police officers are presently patrolling the New York City transit system alongside hundreds of MTA police state troopers and National Guard troops. Not only are random bag checks the new normal for subway riders, but apparently, so is the tremendous amount of manpower deployed throughout the subway system, according to Mayor Eric Adams, who responded in the affirmative to a WABC reporter on whether the increase in patrols should be considered the new normal.
