New York City is building a new center called BATWorks at the Brooklyn Army Terminal to help fight environmental change. The focus is on climate solutions like clean energy, electric vehicles, and technologies that reduce pollution.
The hub will support 150 new companies over the next 10 years. These companies will work on ideas to cut carbon emissions and make the city more sustainable. BATWorks will give them space to test and improve their products.
The center is about 200,000 square feet and will create over 600 jobs. The city is investing $100 million in BATWorks, plus $1.4 million to train and hire local residents for green jobs, in hopes this will end up generating $2.6 billion in the city's economy.
