50 Lag Ba’Omer Bonfires Will Bring the Joy of Rabi Shimon to the Boro Park Streets

A tradition that is not as old as it appears, the minhag to conduct Lag Ba’Omer bonfires on the streets of Boro Park has, well… caught fire. Every year seems to bring more locations where Yidden will gather to celebrate the holiness of the hillula of Rashbi.
From the 10th Avenue to 20th Avenue, from 37th Street to 60th Street—roughly a square mile of an expanding Boro Park will be united in a fire of joy, an effort to tap into the aura of Rabi Shimon’s Hillula.
Coordination of 50 bonfires does not come simply. It takes months of work by Community Board 12, which coordinates these events with the FDNY, NYPD, and Boro Park Shomrim, who assist in keeping safety and order at the fires.
Monday night, Yidden in Boro Park will come out en masse to their respective celebrations, drawing yeshu’os in the zechus of Rabi Shimon for themselves and all of Klal Yisroel.
