After Hours-Long Standoff with Police, Woman Discovered Dead in Kensington Apartment

NYPD teams and other emergency first responders camped for hours on Wednesday evening outside an apartment on East 5th Street near Ditmas Avenue. An armed man had barricaded himself inside just before 8pm, and NYPD tried to gain entry after a woman entered the apartment. 

The standoff attracted crowds of onlookers from the area who remained there until the teams were finally able to get inside the apartment, at about 10:00pm. 

Once inside, they discovered the woman lying unresponsive on the kitchen floors, and she was pronounced deceased at the scene. The man was transported to Maimonides Hospital for evaluation. There is no word on whether any charges will be filed in this case.
