A harrowing pursuit is took place today afternoon as a pair of car thieves have unleashed a burglary spree this afternoon in broad daylight. Boro Park Shmira has had their units on the case all afternoon, and are hot on the trail of the perpetrators.

One theft occurred near 12th Avenue and 48th Street. Shmira was called to the scene, and began pursuing.

Not long before, the suspects showed up at the Sephardic Center on Ocean Parkway near Avenue S in Flatbush. When a woman left her children in her running BMW, one of the suspects wanted to go off with the car. The screaming mother alerted the school security guard who chased the suspects, leading the suspect to abandon the vehicle. The children were safely reunited with their mother.

In an alarming turn of events, the suspects attempted to steal a third vehicle, but were unsuccessful in their endeavor. The details surrounding this attempted theft are still emerging, and it remains unclear how the would-be carjackers were thwarted.

Meanwhile, a stolen Hyundai Sonata was used as the getaway vehicle. It was found by Shmira back in Boro Park, at 13th Avenue and 48th Street. The NYPD evidence collection team was on the scene where the getaway car was found for an evidence search.

In a recent update, the stolen BMW was recovered in Newark, NJ, with the assistance of the Newark Police Department. The car was found empty and stripped of its contents and luggage, but the car thieves were not found near the vehicle.

Compounding the urgency of the search for the suspects is the fact that the owner of the vehicle was scheduled to travel to Kerestir this afternoon. His tefillin, passport, and a number of other valuables were taken by the suspects as they fled the vehicle.
