Another Heavy Rain And Strong Thunderstorms Could Bring Flash Flooding To New York Tomorrow
Yisroel R.
New Yorkers should prepare for another round of heavy rain and strong thunderstorms Tuesday into early Wednesday, with forecasters warning that localized flash flooding is possible in areas hit by repeated downpours.
Rain could begin as early as Tuesday morning, but the most significant weather is expected Tuesday evening. Multiple rounds of thunderstorms are forecast between approximately 4 p.m. and 11 p.m., with showers continuing overnight before gradually ending early Wednesday morning.
Most areas are expected to receive between 1 and 1.5 inches of rain, while isolated locations could see as much as 2.5 to 3.5 inches if storms repeatedly move over the same area. Those higher rainfall totals could lead to flash flooding in low-lying neighborhoods, underpasses, and other poor drainage locations.
Some of the stronger storms may also produce wind gusts between 40 and 60 mph, capable of bringing down tree limbs, causing isolated damage, and producing small hail.
Residents living in flood-prone or basement homes are urged to be prepared to move to higher ground if flooding develops. Officials also remind motorists never to drive through flooded roadways and encourage everyone to secure loose outdoor items ahead of the storms.
