Banner Recalls 42 Types of Potentially Contaminated, Unsafe Smoked Fish

     Banner Smoked Fish has voluntarily recalled 42 of its different types of smoked fish, some of which are labeled by different companies, after the U.S. Food and Drug Association (FDA) found, during a routine inspection that found that some of the Brooklyn company’s products were processed in unsanitary conditions.

     In addition to many varieties of Banner Smoked Fish, other recalled labels of smoked fish include: Westside Market NYC, BenZ's, Marshall's, Tuv Taam, Golden Taste, New York Steelhead Hudson Valley Fisheries, Raskin's, Flaum, and Fishing Line.

     No customers have yet reported any health concerns in connection to Banner’s smoked fish, however, Banner initiated a recall of its some of its products because they may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes, which is an organism that can cause serious, and sometimes, fatal infections in young children, frail, elderly people, and others who have weakened immune systems.

     Women who are expecting must be very careful not to eat Banner’s smoked fish because Listeria infections can cause miscarriages and stillbirths.

     Healthy people who are infected with Listeria may suffer only short-term symptoms, such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain, and other stomach upset.

     Specifically, as per the FDA, Banner recalled the following products:  Banner Sable, Banner White Fish (Hot Smoked) Banner Nova Bits, Banner Sjomga, Banner Mackeral, (Cold Smoked), Banner Trout, Banner Hot-Smoked Mackeral, Banner Finest Sliced Smoked Nova Salmon, Banner Sliced Gravlax, Banner Finest Sliced (Salty Lox), Banner Norwegian-Style Smoked Salmon, Banner Sliced Smoked Scotch-Style Salmon, Banner Naturally Smoked Trimmed Nova Salmon, Banner Sliced Gravad-Style Lox, Banner Center-Sliced Smoked Norwegian-Style Salmon, Banner Sliced Pastrami-Style Nova, Banner Naturally Smoked Nova Salmon Bagel Cuts, Banner Sliced Smoked Norwegian-Style Salmon
