Basic Provisions at Boro Park Target Under Lock and Key

The national wave of shoplifting and larceny has officially come to Boro Park—if the local Target on 18th Avenue is any indication.
As of this week, aisles upon aisles of even cheap provisions, including hair care and oral care, are under lock and key, with customers needing to wait for an attendant to come unlock the cabinets so they can do activities that were once considered normal, such as taking items off of shelves.
One shopper told BoroPark24 from Target, “I pressed the buzzer for the attendant, and it has been ten minutes, and no one has arrived yet. It’s a truly frustrating experience.”
Asked about the reason for locking up all of their merchandise, a Target employee told BoroPark24, “It’s due to the rampant shoplifting… so many people steal, and we will stay with nothing left.”
Asked why some aisles in the store have locks while others don’t, the worker said, “Eventually, everything will be locked up.”
It remains to be seen whether customers will continue to put up with this experience or take their business online as establishments grapple with historic new realities.
