BDE: Hagaon HaRav Elya Meir Sorotzkin, zt”l
We are saddened to inform the community of the petira of Hagaon HaRav Elya Meir Sorotzkin, zt”l, the Rosh Yeshiva, who 30 years ago, founded Yeshiva Tiferes Boruch in Springfield, N.J., which later moved to North Plainfield, N.J. Rav Sorotzkin was approximately 62.
Despite falling ill several years ago, Rav Sorotzkin continued to learn for hours every day, and with great mesirus nefesh, he continued to deliver shiurim, which were legendary.
Unfortunately, Rav Sorotzkin contracted COVID-19 a few weeks ago, and his condition deteriorated until his petira today.
Rav Sorotzkin was a son of Hagaon HaRav Boruch Sorotzkin zt”l, the late Telzer Rosh Yeshiva, and a son-in-law of Hagaon HaRav Shmuel Berenbaum, z”tl, the late Mirrer Rosh Yeshiva.
The rosh yeshiva, together with his incredible rebbitzen, devoted their lives to the yeshiva, being mechanech thousands of bochrim over the years. Rav Sorotzkin leaves behind a family of b’nei Torah and talmidei chachomim.
His brothers are: Hagaon HaRav Yitzchak Sorotzkin of Lakewood Mesivta, and Hagaon HaRav Binyomin Sorotzkin, who is a rosh kollel in Yerushalayim.
Yehi zichro boruch.
