BDE: Mrs. Chava Pessel Fischman, a”h, Auschwitz Survivor

YS GOLD

We regret to inform you of the passing of Mrs. Chava Pessel Fischman, a”h, a longtime Boro Park resident, a matriarch of the well-known Fischman family of the Krasna Kehillah. She was 98 years of age, and rebuilt from the ashes of Auschwitz.

She was born in the Romanian town of Halmin to her parents, Reb Avrohom Yekusiel and Brana Jeremias. Her idyllic childhood was brutally cut short with the arrival of the Nazis who sent her to Auschwitz where she lost much of her family and friends.

She met her husband, Reb Moshe Fischman, in Sweden, and they left Europe through a connection to Yeshiva Ner Israel in Baltimore where they married.

Following the war, she took in many orphans, and nurtured them back to physical and emotional health. Together with her husband, she helped bring the Krasna Ruv to America, and he ate in the Fischman home in Williamsburg until he could establish himself in the new country.

For the ensuing half a century, she was right hand of her husband, Reb Moshe, as he assisted the Krasna Ruv in building the institutions in America. Reb Moshe served as the longtime Krasna Rosh HaKahal, and his devoted wife took a leading role in all matters of the kehillah.

With her passing today, she leaves behind a large Torah family, and a legacy of Torah and chessed.

The levaya will take place in front of the Krasna Shul on 16th Avenue at 12:00.

Yehi zichra baruch.
